About Claire
I am an elementary assistant principal in Brooklyn with a master’s degree in education and ten years of experience teaching, coaching educators, and leading elementary schools.
I have extensive experience supporting literacy and mathematics instruction in kindergarten through fourth grade. My areas of expertise include the science of reading, phonics, reading comprehension, mathematical reasoning, problem solving, assessment, intervention, and data-driven instruction.
In my instructional leadership role, the third- and fourth-grade teams I supported achieved 100% proficiency on state mathematics assessments for three consecutive years and approximately 95% proficiency in English language arts.
My tutoring approach combines strong academic expectations with patient, encouraging, and individualized support. My goal is to help each learner strengthen important skills while becoming a more confident and independent student.

Every child has different academic strengths and areas for growth. In this personalized one-on-one tutoring class, learners receive targeted reading and math instruction based on their individual needs, grade level, and learning goals.
Sessions may focus on building foundational skills, reviewing classroom concepts, addressing unfinished learning, preparing for assessments, completing challenging assignments, or extending learning beyond grade-level expectations. Lessons are supportive, interactive, and designed to help learners become more confident and independent.
Families may choose reading, math, or a combination of both subjects. Because instruction is individualized, this class is appropriate for learners who need intervention, ongoing academic support, enrichment, or additional practice.
This individualized tutoring class provides academic support in kindergarten through fourth-grade reading and mathematics. Each session is designed around the learner’s current skills, schoolwork, and family goals.
During the first session, I will get to know the learner and informally assess their academic strengths and needs. Families are also welcome to share school assignments, assessment results, teacher feedback, or specific skills they would like addressed. I will use this information to create targeted lessons and adjust instruction as the learner progresses.
Reading instruction may include:
Letter recognition and letter-sound relationships
Phonemic awareness
Phonics and decoding
Blending and segmenting sounds
High-frequency words
Spelling and word study

The specific skills taught will depend on the learner’s grade level, current performance, and academic goals.
Each session will be structured, engaging, and responsive to the learner’s needs. Lessons may include:
A brief review of previously taught skills
Direct instruction and teacher modeling
Guided practice with immediate feedback
Independent practice
Interactive games or visual models
Application through reading, writing, or problem solving
A closing review of progress and next steps
Learners will be encouraged to explain their thinking, ask questions, and try multiple strategies. I use clear modeling, age-appropriate visuals, guided questioning, manipulatives, whiteboard practice, and academic games to make learning accessible and engaging.
My teaching style is warm, patient, encouraging, and academically focused. I provide specific feedback and break challenging skills into manageable steps so learners can experience success while continuing to grow.
