About Carolyn

I earned an M.Ed in school counseling and worked as a school counselor with a yearly caseload of 225 students in grades 9-12. I am certified to work with students in grades 5-12. I have also worked with gifted and talented students grade 2-4 creating special projects of student’s choice. I have taken a number of courses in writing and editing, and very much enjoy helping students write clearly. Classroom Success, Executive Skills, Self Evaluation and Self Advocacy, Career and College Planning, including Financial Aid.

About the lesson

For academics, I work individually with students on methods and techniques to approach study and organizational skills for their current courses based on assignments and student learning style.

For career planning, I work individually with students on career exploration, so students make the most appropriate career path choices. I start where they are, discussing their current interests, then explore things like career tasks, salary, typical work day routines, and help them understand how their skills, interests, talents and goals are served by various jobs and careers.

For post high school education and training, I work individually with students as they create a list of schools, programs, or apprenticeships, a plan to visit or further explore the school requirements for application.

For school and program applications, I provide individual guidance and support for admission applications, including research and completing financial aid forms.

A typical lesson plan depends on the subject, assignment, and student goals.

What sets my services apart is customized support and a focus on the future. I work with grades 8-12 on the above.

I also enjoy working with elementary age students on basic reading and writing skills.

I meet students personally who live on Cape Cod and via video chat with all others.

My fee is on a sliding scale, when needed. Complimentary initial meeting for all. My Philosophy: Everyone should have an opportunity to receive personalized help with career, college and financial aid, so my fee is flexible. $100 hour, billed in quarter hour segments.
