Native Australian English speaker, PhD in linguistics, Certificate IV in TESOL. My research specialty is the fine detail of how language is assessed and recorded — which happens to be exactly the skill that finds lost marks in standardized English tests. I coach IELTS and PTE the way the tests are actually scored: band descriptors and task requirements first, then targeted work on precisely what's holding your score down. Most students who plateau aren't short of English — they're losing marks in one or two specific places: pronunciation features the PTE computer mis-hears, grammatical range that plays too safe, essays answering the wrong half of the question. As a professional linguist I can usually diagnose in one session what generic classes take weeks to find; then we drill that, with real test tasks scored honestly against the official criteria. I work with students chasing 79+ for PR points, Band 7s for professional registration, and university entry scores. One-on-one or small groups of two to four, in person around inner Sydney or online. Before you book anything: a free 30-minute assessment call — bring a writing sample or speaking recording and I'll tell you where the marks are hiding.
