IB HL Math Tutor (AA/AI) – 42/45 Graduate – Help for exams + IA

Hi, I recently finished IB with 42/45 (HL Math AA) and I’m offering tuition for IB students taking Math AA HL, Chemistry and Physics HL, as well as Tamil SL

I’m not some full-time tutor, I just finished IB myself so I know exactly what the papers are like, what they test, and honestly what teachers don’t really explain well.

I struggled a bit at the start too so I get where most people get stuck (especially stats / vectors / weird paper 2 questions). Over time I figured out how to approach questions properly and score consistently, so I try to teach that instead of just spamming practice.

What I can help with:
• HL Math (AA), Chemistry, Physics and Tamil
• exam techniques (esp paper 2 calculator qns)
• IA guidance (structure, what IB actually wants)
• going through past papers properly (not just do and check ans)

How I teach

Usually 1–1, I go through questions with you and explain how to think about them. Not just formulas. Also can help review your work outside lesson if needed.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring

I try to keep lessons very practical and exam-focused, not just theory. From my own IB experience, a lot of students understand concepts but struggle to apply them under exam conditions, so I focus a lot on how to approach questions, not just solving them.

I usually break problems down step-by-step, explain the thinking behind each step, and then get the student to try similar questions. Over time the goal is for them to recognize patterns and become more independent, instead of relying on memorizing methods.

For IB Math especially, I also emphasize:
• past paper practice
• understanding marking schemes
• common mistakes students make

Typical lesson structure & length

Most lessons are around 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on the student.

A typical lesson is something like:
• quick recap of previous topics
• going through a few key questions together
• student attempts similar questions with guidance
• review mistakes and exam technique

I also try to keep it flexible depending on what the student needs (e.g. IA help vs exam prep).

Qualifications / experience:

I recently completed the IB Diploma with a score of 42/45, including HL Math AA, Chemistry, Physics and Tamil

I’ve helped peers and juniors before, so I’m familiar with common areas students struggle with. Since I’ve taken the IB recently, I’m also very up to date with the current syllabus and exam style, which I think helps a lot.
