About Hilary
I recently completed my undergraduate degree in psychology (hons) and communication (major) with a final grade point average of 3.73/4.33 and an upper-division grade point average of 3.95/4.33. I will be attending graduate school at a prestigious university (i.e., one of the top 10 universities in the world) in the fall. (I can provide proof of this upon request.)
I incorporate psychological concepts such as mastery learning and positive reinforcement into my teaching, because I believe that learning needs to be done in a supportive environment and with an intrinsically-motivated mindset.
I have been tutoring since 2019 and have received praise from students and parents alike about my compassionate and supportive learning environment. I strive to be approachable to my students, because I believe that they will be more likely to ask for help/guidance. Lastly, I believe that active and immediate feedback are important tools when learning new topics, so I aim to provide students time to practice their newly-acquired skills with me so they can build their confidence and knowledge!

Hi! My name is Hilary. My teaching style stems from a type of educational psychology called mastery learning. Mastery learning focuses on developing skills for the sake of developing them rather than for an external purpose, such as getting an A on their next essay. I also incorporate each student's strengths and weakneses into how I structure lesson plans -- I want my lessons to work for them, not for them to work for my lessons. Learning is a collaborative process and should be treated as such.
Although I prefer long-term lessons, I am also available to help out students who are struggling with a particular topic or homework assignment. Ultimately, I want students to walk away from my lessons with newfound knowledge that they a) are proud of learning and achieving, and b) will apply to their future homework assignments.
