About Izelle

I am an Honors university student with a strong academic foundation in mathematics and the sciences. I completed my undergraduate BSc in Physiology, Genetics, and Psychology, along with first-year university Mathematics and second-year Biometry, and achieved a distinction in Mathematics in Matric. I have consistently performed well in Physics and Chemistry, and I bring both subject knowledge and academic discipline into every lesson I teach.

I offer Grade 8–12 tutoring in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, with a focus on clear explanations, strong conceptual understanding, and effective exam preparation. I believe that many learners struggle not because they lack ability, but because key concepts were never properly explained or connected logically. My strength lies in breaking down difficult material into structured, understandable steps, using simple and relatable examples to build real understanding.

My teaching style is professional, structured, and supportive. I am patient and approachable, but also focused and disciplined in my approach to ensure that lessons are productive and results-driven. With a background in psychology, I am particularly attentive to confidence, motivation, and exam anxiety, helping learners develop both academic skills and a more positive mindset toward learning.

I teach in English and Afrikaans, and I offer lessons online (South Africa-wide) as well as in person in Pretoria. My aim is to provide high-quality, reliable academic support that helps learners feel confident, prepared, and capable of achieving meaningful improvement in their results.

About the lesson

My approach to private tutoring is structured, learner-focused, and adaptable. I tailor each lesson to the student’s current level, learning style, and academic goals. I focus on building strong foundations first, as gaps in basic understanding are often the main reason learners struggle in mathematics and physical sciences. Once these foundations are secure, we move on to applying concepts confidently in problems and exam-style questions.

What makes me unique as a teacher is my ability to break down complex concepts into clear, logical steps and explain them in a way that feels manageable and relatable. With a background in psychology, I also take a psychological approach to learning, helping students build confidence, manage academic stress, and develop effective problem-solving habits.

I am fluent in English and Afrikaans, and I am able to teach comfortably in either language.

A typical lesson begins with identifying problem areas or reviewing recent classwork, homework, or tests. I then explain key concepts clearly, work through examples step-by-step, and guide the student through practice questions. Lessons are focused and productive, with an emphasis on understanding, accuracy, and exam technique. I am patient and supportive, but also firm when needed to ensure that lessons lead to real progress rather than rushed or superficial understanding.

My lessons are aimed at Grade 8–12 learners following the South African CAPS curriculum, including students who:

Want to improve confidence and consistency

Need structured test and exam preparation

Benefit from one-on-one, personalised support
