About the lesson

Hola!! I am a highly qualified and well experienced native Spanish teacher. I have recently been working in at 11-18 high school in the outskirts of Barcelona, where I was responsible for the teaching of A Level English as well as being a sixth former group form tutor. I work closely with the A Level coordinator to help students with transition to university.
Having lived in England for over 17 years, I grasped the opportunity to enhance my teaching career by taking up a position as English teacher for the Spanish government in 2012. After sitting a set of theoretical and practical examinations on MFL teaching and learning, I was delighted to have come top against hundreds of other candidates.
During my teaching experience in Spain I have contributed to the development of a dynamic MFL department in many different ways. I pride myself to have set up various pen pal, e-pal links with English schools as part of the school departmental development plan to improve writing skills, enthuse students as well as boosting student's confidence in communicating in English. Results in English at our school are above average at both GCSE and A Level.

Prior to my teaching in Spain, 13 years as Spanish Coordinator in Lancashire was also a very enriching and successful phase of my career. I raised the profile of Spanish in the MFL department as well as equipping the department with valuable resources and developing language exchanges. I also took part in numerous development courses and managerial tasks. I am thus in tune with the day to day life of teaching languages in the UK as well as keeping abreast of the National Curriculum changes in the past 18 years.

I am a teacher eager to further myself academically. A graduate in English and German by the Barcelona University, I embarked on postgraduate studies in the UK. I successfully graduated in Advanced Translation Studies by the University of Salford. Given my strong interest in cross-cultural studies I completed a PhD that contributes a better understanding of cross cultural problems in literary translation from Spanish and Catalan into English thus exploring issues arising from the translation of irony. I have also completed some work in translation as well as proofreading tasks for Lancaster University.

As a language lover and bilingual since birth, I also know other Modern Foreign Languages, including German and French, which I have studied to an advanced Level. I also have done some volunteer work in Lancashire in order to promote the learning of Spanish at a primary school level. In one of my volunteer roles.

I am currently working at university level and also offering GCSE classes.
