About Courtney

I love living in Colorado and being outside with my one year old Yellow Lab, Maple. I love teaching and helping students feel successful and helping them to meet their goals. I specialize in making complex topics accessible and engaging through real-world connections, project-based learning, and personalized support. I’m professional, patient, and committed to student success.

About the lesson

As a tutor with 13 years of classroom experience in Social Studies and Business, I take a student-centered approach that focuses on making content meaningful, accessible, and relevant. I specialize in working with diverse learners at the middle and high school level, including students in IB programs and those needing differentiated instruction.

Teaching Method & Techniques:
My method is rooted in inquiry-based learning, where students are encouraged to think critically, ask questions, and make real-world connections. I use a combination of direct instruction, visual aids, guided discussions, and interactive activities to support all types of learners. I also incorporate project-based learning and current events to build engagement and deepen understanding.

Typical Lesson Plan:
Each session begins with a quick check-in or warm-up to assess prior knowledge or spark curiosity. I then introduce or review key content through mini-lessons, videos, or readings. The bulk of the lesson is interactive—students might analyze a historical source, work on a presentation, or collaborate on a mock debate. We wrap up with a quick review or reflection, and I offer feedback or an optional follow-up activity.

What sets me apart is my ability to adapt lessons in real time to meet each student’s needs, whether they require enrichment or scaffolding. I bring energy, empathy, and 13 years of classroom-tested strategies to each session. I also draw on my experience teaching both traditional and IB curricula, which allows me to support students in rigorous academic environments.

My tutoring is ideal for middle and high school students (grades 6–12), particularly those studying U.S. History, World History, Civics, Economics, or IB Business & Management. I work well with students who benefit from patient, creative instruction—whether they’re preparing for exams, catching up, or aiming to deepen their knowledge
