About Fede
I was born in Costa Rica and I am a native speaker with a deep understanding of the Spanish language. I speak English and Spanish fluently without an accent and I specialize in accent reduction. I learned how to develop my bi-lingual abilities through a combination of growing up in Costa Rica and excellent education. Later in life during my formal studies I used this broad knowledge of life in Latin America by aligning my experiences with common core learning objectives such as ACTFL’s world language proficiency levels. These are a benchmark from which to measure proficiency, which are widely used by many private and public schools. Therefore, I teach by incorporating contextual ways that combine Integrated Performance Assessments with a bounty of personal experiences growing up in Latin America.

Throughout my Masters degree and previous schools that I have taught at, I learned to integrate pedagogical theories and practices in my classroom instruction with my own experience as a language learner. My teaching philosophy involves Paul Sandrock’s integrated performance assessment method that uses ACTFL’s (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) proficiency scales as a benchmark for the assessment and a clear measurement of student learning. Many school districts adopt ACTFL’s proficiency levels as a benchmark for measuring student success in a world language classroom. I believe that my experience growing up in Latin America and being fully bi-lingual have given me many examples of immersion type situations that I use in alignment with the ACTFL proficiency levels to plan rich, meaningful lessons that align with district and school wide objectives.
