About Sumayyah

With over 14 years of experience teaching English Literature and Language, I have dedicated my career to helping students unlock their potential through a clear, structured, and high-impact approach to learning. I have taught across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5, specialising in preparing students for success in GCSE and A-level English. My teaching is rooted in a deep understanding of curriculum demands and a passion for both the subject and student progress. For six years, I led a highly successful English department, driving improvements in results, curriculum design, and teaching quality. As Head of Department, I implemented strategies that raised attainment across all key stages and developed a team of teachers committed to excellence. My role as Vice Principal for five years further broadened my leadership experience, giving me the opportunity to support whole-school improvement while maintaining a sharp focus on teaching and learning standards in English. In addition to my leadership roles, I am a Lead Examiner for AQA, which gives me valuable insight into exam expectations, marking criteria, and how students can maximise their performance. This insider knowledge directly informs my tutoring, allowing me to teach with precision and purpose, equipping students with the exam skills, analytical techniques, and confidence needed to succeed. My approach is professional, personalised, and exam-focused. I support students not only in mastering content but in understanding how to approach questions, manage time, and structure high-quality responses. About the lesson

With 14 years of classroom teaching experience and a proven track record as an English consultant, I bring a structured, exam-focused, and skill-based approach to every lesson. My methodology is grounded in developing core skills through scaffolded tasks, targeted feedback, and exam-specific strategies that boost confidence and performance. I tailor each session to meet the individual needs of the student, using proven techniques that make learning accessible, engaging, and effective. Lessons typically last 60 minutes and are designed to maximise learning without overwhelming the student. I balance subject content with assessment practice, ensuring that students not only understand the material but also know how to apply it successfully in an exam context. I specialise in AQA but have in-depth knowledge of all major exam boards. My expertise lies in teaching Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 students, supporting learners preparing for GCSEs and A-levels. Whether a student needs long-term academic support or short-term exam preparation, my lessons are designed to deliver measurable progress and lasting academic confidence.
