About Hiwot

Hi! My name is Hiwot and I absolutely love math and science, as well as teaching! I’ve always had a passion for learning—and now I’m excited to share that passion by helping others succeed in math and science. I've been tutoring for almost 6 years now! I graduated as the valedictorian of my high school and am currently studying neuroscience at the UofA, so I feel super equipped and capable to tutor math and science up to the high school level. I know that every student learns differently, so I focus on explaining concepts in clear, simple ways tailored to each person’s needs. My goal is to help you not just memorize information, but truly understand it so you can apply it with confidence.

Whether you’re preparing for an exam, struggling with homework, or want to get ahead, I can explain tough concepts in a clear, easy-to-understand way. I’ll meet you where you’re at—and help you get where you want to be. My Teaching Methodology I believe that understanding beats memorization. I break down complex ideas into simple, relatable steps, using real-world examples and practice problems to reinforce learning. I tailor my teaching style to fit each student’s needs—whether you’re a visual learner, hands-on learner, or someone who benefits from step-by-step explanations. A Typical Lesson Plan Each session is structured around your goals: - Quick review of previous material to solidify understanding - Focus on current challenges—working through problems, reviewing concepts, answering questions - Practice together with guided examples and feedback - Independent practice with support to build confidence - Preview of upcoming topics or study strategies if needed/ What Sets Me Apart - I’ve walked the path myself: graduating at the top of my class means I know what it takes to excel. For instance, I scored 100% in my math 30-1 diploma and 98% on my chemistry diploma and received similar marks in my other science courses, so I feel well suited to teach math and science - I blend academic knowledge with encouragement and patience—so students feel supported, not intimidated - I’m actively studying neuroscience, giving me a strong foundation in science and mathematics - I have lots of experience freelance tutoring during high school and as a first-year university student, so I have a strong background teaching math and science material Who Are My Lessons For? Students needing help with any and all math (algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, calculus and more) and science (biology, physics, chemistry) up to 12th grade in Alberta! I also offer study skills and exam prep and provide additional study material depending on the subject.
