I am a student who has had tutoring since a very young age. Because of this I had an advantage in school and tutoring helped me to pick up on subjects quicker than most people could. Although school was sometimes a struggle I learned tips and techniques on how to study and taught them to my friends

First I ask the student what their problem is, take a hard look at their problem and their work. If it’s a simple arithmetic error I will point it out to them which is an easy fix. If the problem has a different error I will ask the student to explain their thinking in how to solve the problem. After that I will see if it’s necessary to reteach them the topic, and if I do decide to do that I will first ask the student how they learned it in their original way. I will either then them a simpler way or explain what’s happening in the problem and then have them try the problem again. If the student still gets it wrong I will write my work down for them to look at and then have them compare their work to mine.
