About Blair

If there is one thing I have learned in my 23 years of working with students, is that everyone has strengths that can be used to reap future success. You need to believe it just as I do. While I can tell you this firsthand, my teaching approaches are geared to allow you to see this for yourself. You will never be defined as a person by a number earned in a course. Just like the weather can change from day to day, we can have courses where we don't get the number we ideally want. In our tutoring sessions, we will aim to improve something for the longer term: the learning climate. By doing so, we will work on building strategies that will not just help you in the now, but in future courses and most importantly in where you go beyond school.

About the lesson

It begins by finding out where you are at in your learning, what your experiences are and what you have! By getting to know YOU, strategies are taken to help you better relate to the material being studied. Instructional and review strategies are employed that are research-based. In addition to direct teaching as needed, such strategies include concept mapping, Venn diagramming, concept attainment, test-retest, distributed & interleaved practice. The approach taken will require an active approach by the learner so be prepared for periods where I listen and merely steer understanding. After all, it's you who is constructing the understanding as you interact with the world. The majority of my approaches stem from the teaching and professional experience I have gained from teaching high school science.
