About Joy

I am a dedicated, approachable, and passionate tutor who believes that every student can succeed when given the right guidance, patience, and learning environment. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics and Geography at the University of Nairobi and expect to graduate in December 2026. I have experience teaching high school students in Mathematics, Geography, and Chemistry during school holidays, and I focus on helping students understand concepts rather than simply memorize information.

Beyond academics, I am passionate about youth development and personal growth. I am an advocate for mental health awareness and serve as a SMACHS Youth Representative for Embu County, where I engage in initiatives involving young people, smart agriculture, and climate action. Professionally, I work as a Project Management and ERP Systems Manager, as well as an Administration and Procurement Officer at Free Drop Limited. These experiences have strengthened my communication, leadership, organization, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.

As a tutor, I bring these experiences into my lessons by creating a supportive environment where students can ask questions freely, learn from mistakes, and build confidence. I believe education should go beyond textbooks and examinations—it should develop curiosity, critical thinking, independence, and the ability to apply knowledge in real life. My goal is to help every student not only improve academically, but also develop confidence in their ability to learn and solve problems.

About the lesson

My tutoring approach is centered on understanding, not memorization. I believe students learn best when they understand why something works and can connect what they learn in class to real-life situations. I begin by identifying what the student already understands and where they are struggling, then I break difficult concepts into simple, manageable steps. I use questions, practical examples, discussions, worked examples, and problem-solving exercises to encourage students to think independently rather than simply memorize answers. I also adapt my teaching style to suit each student's pace and learning needs.

My typical lesson is 120 minutes, although I can adjust the duration depending on the student's age, level, concentration, and goals. I aim to make every lesson interactive, allowing time for explanation, practice, questions, and feedback. I believe mistakes are an important part of learning, so I create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and trying again.

I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics and Geography at the University of Nairobi and expect to graduate in December 2026. I have experience teaching and supporting high school students in Mathematics, Geography, and Chemistry during school holidays. My lessons are primarily for high school students who want to strengthen their understanding, improve their academic performance, prepare for examinations, or simply become more confident in these subjects. My goal is to help students develop skills they can use beyond the classroom, including critical thinking, problem-solving, curiosity, and independent learning.
