About Olive

I pride myself in helping others, especially if they need help understanding. Depending on the age of the learner, I will update the parent/student on the progress. In my experience with mathematics, some things were easy, other things were hard. I like to give a "good job!" or "you did it!" for any accomplishment, even if it's small. Depending on the learner's needs, I am willing to make a list or a visual of concepts. I like to make sure others' needs are met and respect opinions. I like to create a respectful and understanding space for the learner. I will not judge a learner if they are behind, ahead or on track, everyone has different learning needs and paces.

About the lesson

Math can be tricky, almost like riddles. Some need different ways to understand the concepts and solve problems, besides what they teach in school. I am flexible and prefer to use examples of the learner's interests to keep them engaged while helping them understand their math. I believe everyone works at a different pace and may understand some concepts more than others. My lessons are for any learner in Algebra 1 or below. A typical summer lesson will include reviewing concepts from the year before, and making sure the learner really understands the concepts and is not confused. A typical lesson during their current school year will include a review from the last session, homework help, extra teaching, and checking their understanding. The lesson plans may change depending on the learner's understanding and their own pace.
