About Lucinda
I am an experienced and dedicated academic mentor with a particular specialism in social science and the humanities, having completed my doctorate within this subject area at Durham University in 2022.
As a proud ‘dyslexic thinker’, and having overcome various challenges through my own studies, I have more recently developed a growing interest in supporting students with SEND & SEMH needs, and have spent the last three years working as an academic and pastoral mentor in a secondary school context where I have provided dedicated support and tutoring to a range of different pupils from Y7-13. This has included delivering targeted tutoring for GCSE English Literature and Language courses, where I have achieved consistently excellent results, as well as providing dedicated SEMH and study skills support for pupils within our SEND Department. I also have past experience of working in primary school settings, and of providing personally tailored literacy tutoring for Y5/6 pupils.
My experience of working with young people in both primary and secondary school contexts, alongside my time supporting undergraduate and postgraduate students within the university setting has made me especially adaptable to working with people of all ages, abilities, and levels, and has given me a real passion for supporting people at different stages of their educational journey.
Knowing only too well how it feels to feel left behind or alienated in the classroom context or in the midst of a new course of study, I feel especially passionate about supporting individuals to find the kinds of learning strategies which might best suit their personal needs, which might empower them to explore and discover their own passions and interests, and which might enable them to unlock their full potential. To this end, my sessions are designed to be very much tailored to the needs of the individual, and are targeted at any age group, from primary and secondary school pupils, to sixth form, college and/or university students.
