About Miranda

I'm a qualified Secondary English school teacher working in London with a MA in English Language and Literature and PGCE from the University of Edinburgh and UCL respectively. I have been tutoring (I)GCSE and IB English to students for 5+ years. I am open to individual learning styles and like to make the learning process light, personalised and productive!

About the lesson

I use the Communicative Approach to connect with my students; by focusing on meaningful connection, I have found that students are more likely to memorise and correctly interpret information. The tasks and activities are based on the students' current school/university syllabuses. I approach each topic chronologically to align with how they are learning at school/university or by structuring each class based on the individual skills they wish to improve on.

Perfect! During my English lessons with Miranda, I finally got to focus on the one subject holding me back from a satisfactory university application. Each lesson had a relaxed and fun atmosphere, while also proving to be an extremely educational experience. Miranda prepared a set of interactive activities for each meeting, allowing me to work out things for myself rather than the one sided lecture style which I have experienced with previous tutors. Huge thumbs up! I have no doubt learned more in my brief time with Miranda than some Teachers have managed to teach me in an entire year of school. I owe this entirely to her engaging teaching style which took away the pressures of learning, even making me look forward to each meeting. I would highly recommend Miranda to anyone hoping to improve their English ability.

Benjmain is one of the most determined, hardworking and self-disciplined students I have had the pleasure to tutor. He is intelligent and very respectful; I am certain that he will achieve great things in the future. With each session, he was prepared and open to improving his ability to think analytically and express himself through writing. I have no doubt that Benjmain can reach a level 7 in English Language and Literature if he continues to apply the analytical skills he has picked up with our sessions in news articles or texts that he is most interested in, and by writing or reading about topics that interest him most.
