My approach is to understand each child’s individual needs, interests, learning style, and pace before teaching phonics. I want children to learn phonics in a fun, engaging, and hands-on way, rather than simply memorizing sounds.
I use songs, actions, stories, flashcards, real objects, games, air writing, sand tracing, clay, movement activities, and sound-matching games to help children connect a sound with its letter and meaning. For example, while teaching /m/, children can say the sound, make the action, find objects beginning with /m/, trace the letter in sand, and blend simple sounds to make a word.
I follow a child-centered and systematic approach, where I gradually move from listening to sounds, recognizing phonemes and graphemes, blending, segmenting, and eventually reading simple words. I also observe children closely and provide additional support or challenging activities according to their individual needs.
My goal is to make phonics active, enjoyable, meaningful, and accessible, so that children develop confidence and become motivated early readers.
