About Joanna

Hi! I am a 22-year-old who is about to graduate with a 2:1 degree in French and Spanish from a Top 10 University in the UK! I have years of experience learning languages, which is why I feel extremely prepared and passionate about teaching foreign languages. In September, I will be spending a year in Belgium teaching English language and culture in two Universities, which hopefully shows you that it is not just me with confidence in my communication skills! I already have a year's experience teaching English comprehension, reading and pronunciation; as long as you have B1 understanding of English (CEFR), then I am eager to meet you soon!

About the lesson

I have 1 year of teaching experience, in which I tutored a younger boy for two hours a week in reading and comprehension. He would read aloud a book and I would correct his pronunciation and rhythm; I would then ask him questions to make sure he had understood what he had been reading. I am graduating with a 2:1 in a French and Spanish degree, so I completely understand how challenging it can be to learn a new language. I have strong communication skills thanks to the year I spent tutoring and to the experience that my degree and living abroad has given me.

The lesson lengths will last an hour, during which we will examine an English text or video and discuss whatever you may have found difficult, whether that is grammar, syntax, colloquial phrases, idioms or comprehension of the text/video. I personally believe that being able to communicate the language that you are learning is the most important aspect of language learning, therefore the lessons will likely focus on speaking. Of course, if you would prefer to focus on grammar or pronunciation, then we will focus on that! I am here for your benefit and learning so I will meet your needs!

My lessons are best suited for those with an intermediate or higher level, but I am very prepared to tailor these lessons to the level of the individual.
