About Emily

Through my study of the French language I achieved an A in the SQA Advanced Higher exam after previously working up through BGE, National 5 and Higher. I studied the Advanced Higher course through open learning at Edinburgh College, which gave me the experience of structuring my own lessons for self-study as well as using Skype for practising conversation. At the RCS I have continued to study and speak the language at an advanced level and have provided extra tuition to my colleagues.

About the lesson

I am a passionate language leaner, and enthusiastic teacher. So much so, that in my final year of high school I was effectively my own French teacher!
Do you love languages too? For me, learning a language is all about the communication. (Plus, I am a bit of a grammar nerd!)
I am experienced in teaching beginners, casual learners and intermediate/advanced students. An important aspect of my approach to teaching language is to cover all of the core skills (Reading, Listening, Speaking, Grammar, Writing, Translation) and build vocabulary over time. I like to make lessons as engaging as possible, and therefore love to use a variety of teaching materials such as clips from tv series, songs, etc.

Your goals are important to me. Is there a particular skill such as Writing that you need some help with for example? As a native English speaker, I have all of the tips you could need to nail that French exam or just improve your skills overall! Are you looking for something more casual? No commitment is necessary – if you have specific questions, or just fancy having the chance to practise conversing in French (or English), I am able to be completely flexible with my time!
