About Mya
Hello, my name is Mya Ogletree, and I am a second-year college student attending Spelman College. I am aiming to become a math tutor who focuses on helping students truly understand the material rather than memorizing steps. I break down complex topics into simple, efficient methods and look for easier ways to approach problems so students can grasp concepts more quickly and confidently. I tailor each lesson to the student’s learning style and pace, creating a supportive and encouraging learning environment. Teaching Method and Techniques My teaching style focuses on helping students truly understand the material rather than just memorizing the basic steps. When I work with math, I always look for a simpler method or a “loophole” that makes the concept easier to grasp. I break problems down into smaller, manageable steps and explain why each step works to fully understand why each step matters rather than simply overlooking a step. Typical Lesson Plan A typical lesson begins with a quick check-in to see what the student is struggling with and what they already understand. Then, I review the key concept in a simple way, often showing an easier or alternative method to solve the problem. We work through examples together step by step, and then the student practices similar problems while I guide and correct them as needed. At the end of the lesson, I summarize the main ideas and give tips the student can use when practicing on their own. Who the Lessons Are For My lessons are for students who are struggling with pre-calculus, algebra, or similar math courses. I work with middle school, high school, and early college students who need extra support, whether they are behind, preparing for exams, or just want to strengthen their foundation in math.
