About Johnny
I'm from Suffolk, in the United Kingdom. I have had the experience of attending some of the best and worst schools that the UK has to offer, so I feel I am well-versed in what makes for effective and ineffective teaching (I went from a very mixed set of GCSE results to 4 A*s at A-level!).
After completing my master's degree, I hope to continue studying at Oxford for a doctorate in Political Theory. Hopefully, this will enable me to pursue a career as a full-time academic, where I can follow my passion of writing and teaching professionally.

A-levels are difficult. Unlike GCSEs, they aren't just memory tests: they require you to think critically, read widely, and formulate intricate arguments. These are the skills I focus on predominantly in my tutoring.
Before some of our sessions, I will ask you to send me essays you've written either in class or for general practice. We will then go over your work together, and I will give you my best pointers as to where your arguments could be clearer, stated more forcefully, or more evidence is required to support your claims.
If everything is progressing well, I will also look to introduce you to more demanding, university-level content. This will give you ideas you can put into your essays that will set you apart from other students, whilst making more standard a-level content feel much more accessible. This will also be a massive help if you decide to continue studying at degree-level, and I am happy to help you ready university applications if that is something you aspire towards.
My lessons are typically an hour in length (in my experience, anything more is futile!).
I am well-qualified to teach both Politics and Philosophy, having attained a first-class degree from the London School of Economics, whilst I begin a master's degree in political theory at the University of Oxford in the Autumn. I also have extensive experience with the A-level system, having achieved 4 A*s in 2019.
