About Chuan-Shen

My name is Chuan-Shen Hu. I am a researcher with interdisciplinary training in mathematics, artificial intelligence, and computational science, I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to contribute to your department through research-led teaching, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and student mentorship. With a Ph.D. in Mathematics from National Taiwan Normal University and postdoctoral experience at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), I bring both deep theoretical grounding and practical expertise that aligns with your department’s strengths in mathematics and data science. In addition to my research interests, I am passionate about teaching a broad range of undergraduate and graduate courses. I am particularly interested in offering foundational courses such as Calculus, Linear Algebra (both general and numerical), Probability Theory, Programming, Numerical Analysis, Machine Learning, and Advanced Calculus. These courses are vital for building students’ mathematical maturity and computational literacy. Furthermore, I am well-prepared and enthusiastic about teaching more advanced subjects, including Abstract Algebra, Modern Algebra, Topology, Algebraic Topology, and related theoretical topics

About the lesson

My teaching philosophy is grounded in empowering students to engage deeply with both abstract theory and real-world applications. First, I aim to cultivate students’ confidence in reading theoretical literature, constructing rigorous proofs, and grasping the foundational mechanisms behind mathematical frameworks. I encourage them not only to understand the “how,” but also the “why”—bridging intuition with formal reasoning. Second, I believe in going beyond theoretical comprehension by guiding students to implement these frameworks in practice. Through hands-on projects and application-driven exercises, students learn to translate abstract mathematics into models for real-world phenomena and tasks. Whether in applied topology, data science, or mathematical modeling, my goal is to equip students with both the theoretical literacy and the practical fluency necessary to become creative and competent problem solvers across domains.
