About Finnian

About Me I’m a dedicated GCSE Maths tutor with a proven track record of helping students boost their confidence, strengthen their skills, and achieve their target grades. Having earned an A* in GCSE Maths myself, I understand exactly what examiners are looking for and how to guide students through even the trickiest topics. My lessons are carefully planned to match each student’s learning style, whether they prefer step-by-step explanations, visual methods, or hands-on problem solving. I make sure every concept is fully understood before moving on, so my students don’t just memorise methods — they truly understand the “why” behind them as I understand the importance of understanding not just memorising a concept. Professionalism is at the core of my teaching. I am reliable, well-prepared for every session, and always focused on the individual goals of each learner. Whether you’re aiming for a top grade or looking to build confidence in the basics, I will give you the tools, techniques, and encouragement you need to succeed. I have experience supporting learners aged 11–16 across all major UK exam boards (AQA, Edexcel, OCR) and can adapt my approach for both exam preparation and long-term skill building. My priority is ensuring that students not only improve their results but also enjoy the process of learning Maths.

About the lesson

My Approach to Tutoring I focus on building both confidence and understanding in GCSE Maths by breaking down complex concepts into clear, manageable steps. I adapt each lesson to the student’s learning style — whether that’s through worked examples, visual aids, or practical problem-solving — so that they fully grasp the topic before moving on. I use a lot of past paper questions and exam-style problems to help students apply their knowledge under realistic conditions, and I give them simple strategies for tackling tricky questions. I also focus on identifying any gaps early and revisiting them regularly so the learning “sticks.” Typical Lesson Structure Most lessons are 1 hour long, starting with a quick recap of the previous topic to check understanding, followed by teaching the new concept, guided practice together, and then independent practice with feedback. For exam preparation, I integrate timed exercises to improve speed and accuracy. Qualifications and Experience I achieved an A* in GCSE Maths and have an in-depth understanding of the curriculum and different exam boards (AQA, Edexcel, OCR). I’ve helped friends and peers improve their grades significantly through clear explanations and targeted revision techniques. While I am early in my formal tutoring career, my results with those I’ve supported informally have been strong, and I am committed to providing the same support to all my students. Who My Lessons Are For I tutor secondary school students preparing for GCSE Maths, typically aged 14–16, but I’m also happy to support younger students (11–13) who want to build strong foundations before starting GCSE-level work.
