About Melinda

I am a former university professor, teaching all kinds of communication, history, and writing classes. I have two master's degrees and a doctorate -- that means I have written a book-length study and gotten parts of it published! Some people are good at math, but I am an expert in all aspects of written, spoken, and visual communication.

A few years ago, I had to let my daughter use my car for work, so I started doing online tutoring. Much to my surprise, I found that one-to-one tutoring online was much more rewarding than teaching in the classroom! One-to-one teaching means that the student really gets to learn material quickly. You can ask questions any time (or send me e-mails), I can determine what your strengths and weaknesses are, and I can tailor learning materials and activities specifically to you.

Although I have lots of learning and teaching experience, I am a down-to-earth, funny, and approachable person. I have had more than 250 SAT students, and I can guarantee you that you will learn, you will gain confidence, and your SAT scores will go up by being tutored by me.

Finally, because I am semi-retired, my schedule is very flexible, so I can work around your school, sports, work, etc. activities.

About the lesson

Getting ready for the SAT takes time and practice. Imagine you are going to play a soccer game, but you've never played it before and you don't know the rules! You won't do well, trust me!I

Learning all the ins and outs of the SAT Verbal test means gaining skills in assessing questions, knowing which approach to use to answer the question, and having the ability to answer the questions quickly! You need to take the time to gain those skills, much as you would need to know how to maneuver a ball down the field in soccer.

I have developed processes to teach you how to do that kind of quick analysis, but I have also figured out how to improve students' vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation skills. You will be surprised at how NOT knowing these basics can lower your score by 150-200 points.

I'm here to help. I will listen to you. I will laugh with you. I will get you ready for this important test so that as many doors as possible can open for you on your academic journey.
