We're not always perfectly fair with grades. As long as it's not by much, I would raise the grade for a student if he put in a lot of effort or to give them more confidence. And we might lower the grade a little if the answer was too mechanical, just so that the student can put in more creativity or his opinions. But this is just by slight differences.
