About George
I am passionate about an excellent standard of education for all, and believe that studying History in particular is important in understanding the world in all its diversity in a better light. I have a particular interest and focus on the Cold War, the rise of Hitler and Nazi Germany, Stuart England and the Civil War, the Soviet Union, and the American Civil Rights movement. I am also adaptable and have studied Medieval Europe, the history of medicine and health, Elizabethan England, and the making of America. I'll be sure to tutor each student in an independent manner, catering my sessions to your abilities, needs and learning objectives.

My main technique involves thinking of the the best learning outcomes for a particular student or group, and working backwards from there. For example, if learning about the fall of democracy in Weimar Germany, I'd go through in detail all different factors, conversing with students about the topic, clarifying their understanding before they undertake independent work. Also think different students need different techniques, some may need to incorporate visual aids like videos, some may need more interactive processes like debates. In the past I worked at the Ruth Gorse Academy in Leeds, mentoring and tutoring a total of 85 students from Y8-11 in History. A large majority experienced significant progress in both their understanding and academic achievement. My classes can vary between short and intense 30-40 minute bursts of revision, and longer sessions where we study trickier concepts and topics in more detail.
