About André

With a Bachelor of Arts Degree in French Language & Literature, experience tutoring at San Francisco State University, and a lifelong connection to the language, I bring both academic knowledge and personal experience to every lesson. I am half French and spent my summers growing up with my French family in France, learning my roots there. I then continued my formal study of French from high school through college. This combination has given me a strong understanding of both the structure of French and the importance of actually being able to communicate.

I am patient, encouraging, and committed to meeting each student where they are. I understand that speaking a new language can feel intimidating, especially for younger students, so I focus on creating a comfortable environment where mistakes are treated as part of the learning process. I provide clear explanations, constructive corrections, and structured practice so students can see their progress and become more confident over time.

Whether a student needs help keeping up with French class, preparing for a test, improving their grammar, or simply becoming more comfortable speaking, I take the time to understand their individual needs and adapt my lessons accordingly. My goal is not only to help students improve their grades, but to give them a strong foundation and the confidence to use French independently.

About the lesson

Salut! Bienvenue À Mon Cours De Français!

My lessons focus on helping students become comfortable actually using French, not just memorizing vocabulary and grammar rules. I place a strong emphasis on speaking and encourage students to use French from the beginning, even when they make mistakes. I believe that speaking, receiving corrections, and trying again is one of the fastest ways to build confidence and improve.

A typical lesson will begin with a short conversation or review of previous material, followed by focused work on grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, or whatever the student is currently struggling with. We will practice the material together through examples, translation exercises, and conversation, giving the student plenty of opportunities to actively use what they are learning. Lessons can also be tailored around school assignments, upcoming tests, or specific areas where a student needs additional support.

I primarily work with middle school, high school, and college students taking French 1, French 2, or French 3, especially students who already have some basic French knowledge and want to strengthen their skills rather than start completely from scratch. I use the Bien Dit! French materials as a helpful framework when appropriate, but I adapt lessons to each student's level, school curriculum, goals, and learning style.

My standard rate is $28 per hour for personalized one-on-one French lessons. I am flexible and open to discussing rates based on the student's needs, frequency of lessons, and scheduling. I am especially happy to work with students interested in ongoing weekly lessons!
