About Maya

I discovered my passion for guitar at an early age, which led me to pursue a B.Mus in Guitar Performance and an M.Mus in Contemporary Music. Over 8 years, I have guided students of all levels, helping them develop technical mastery, improvisational skills, and musical confidence. My teaching emphasises a balance between structured technique, creative exploration, and performance preparation, allowing each student to grow at their own pace.

My approach is student-centred, interactive, and tailored to individual goals. Lessons include finger exercises, chord progression work, improvisation, repertoire study, and performance practice. I focus on helping learners build both technical competence and expressive ability, creating an engaging, encouraging environment for exploration and growth.

Outside teaching, I perform, compose, and collaborate with musicians in multiple genres, bringing practical experience into lessons. Witnessing students evolve from hesitant beginners into confident, expressive guitarists is deeply rewarding. Supporting their musical journey and helping them discover their unique voice remains the most fulfilling part of my work.

About the lesson

Guitar lessons are most effective when students simultaneously develop technical skills and personal musical expression. My lessons focus on chord mastery, fingerstyle technique, scales, improvisation, phrasing, and rhythm development. Students explore various musical genres, including rock, jazz, blues, and classical, gaining both skill and stylistic understanding. Each session combines structured exercises, repertoire study, and improvisation to nurture both technique and creative freedom, helping learners develop versatility and confidence in their playing.

I tailor lessons according to each student’s level and goals. Beginners focus on basic chords, simple melodies, rhythm, and proper posture. Intermediate learners refine scales, chord voicings, improvisation skills, and stylistic interpretation. Advanced learners work on complex solos, composition, performance readiness, and ensemble collaboration. Every lesson includes constructive feedback, practice strategies, and progress tracking to ensure continual improvement and mastery.

Guitar lessons also foster discipline, focus, and expressive communication. Students learn to perform confidently, improvise creatively, and communicate musical ideas authentically. My goal is to help learners achieve both technical proficiency and artistic freedom, cultivating a lifelong love for music and the guitar.
