About Troy

I am a passionate guitar tutor with a Bachelor’s degree in Music and over six years of hands-on teaching experience. My own journey with the guitar began during my early teens, and what started as a hobby quickly grew into a lifelong pursuit of musical mastery and education. Teaching guitar has allowed me to share the joy and discipline of music with students of all ages and backgrounds. My teaching approach is built on patience, adaptability, and genuine enthusiasm. I recognize that every student learns differently, so I tailor each lesson to fit individual goals and learning styles. Whether you’re working toward your first song or tackling advanced fingerstyle and improvisation, I aim to make learning the guitar both accessible and rewarding. I believe in fostering creativity while also building strong technical foundations. Over the years, I’ve worked with students interested in a wide range of genres, from rock and blues to pop, folk, and classical. This variety has kept my own musicianship fresh and helped me develop versatile, genre-spanning methods. I integrate music theory, ear training, and composition into lessons whenever helpful, to create well-rounded players who can think musically as well as play with confidence. Outside of lessons, I stay actively engaged in performing and composing music, which keeps me in tune with current styles and performance practices. This allows me to bring real-world insights into my teaching, helping students understand how their skills can be applied beyond the practice room. My goal is to inspire every student not just to play, but to truly enjoy and connect with music.

About the lesson

Guitar lessons are structured to support learners of all levels—from complete beginners picking up the instrument for the first time to more experienced players looking to refine their technique. Each lesson is personalized to suit your learning pace and musical goals, whether you want to strum your favorite songs, dive into soloing, or compose original pieces.

For beginners, we focus on the essential building blocks of guitar playing: chord shapes, strumming patterns, proper hand positioning, and basic music reading. Lessons are practical and engaging, using familiar songs to apply new skills and build confidence quickly. You’ll start making music early on while developing strong technique and coordination.

As you progress, lessons expand to include barre chords, scales, fingerstyle techniques, improvisation, and deeper music theory. Whether you’re interested in acoustic, electric, blues, rock, pop, or classical styles, we’ll explore those genres and build a solid, versatile foundation. Ear training and rhythm exercises are included to improve timing and musical awareness.

Every lesson is a balance of structure and creativity, designed to inspire consistent growth and enjoyment. My goal is not only to improve your technical skills but also to help you express yourself through the guitar, developing your own voice as a musician along the way.
