About Kalvin

Hi, I’m Kalvin.

I’m a guitarist and bass player with over 20 years’ experience playing and teaching music. After completing my music degree at the University of Salford, I’ve gigged extensively around Manchester and across Europe, from pub stages to theatres and festival shows, and I’m still actively playing.

A lot of students come to me after trying books, apps, or YouTube and feeling stuck. They might know a few chords, but things don’t quite flow yet, and playing still feels harder than it should. That’s where I help most.

My focus is on helping things click, by improving rhythm, timing, and confidence so playing starts to feel musical rather than frustrating. Instead of jumping randomly between techniques, we work with clear direction and practical goals, so progress feels steady and achievable.

I teach complete beginners, returning players who’ve lost momentum, and hobbyists who want clearer structure and confidence in their playing.

About the lesson

I offer friendly, relaxed, and structured guitar and bass lessons tailored to your goals.

We’ll go at your pace, but with enough structure to make sure you’re always moving forward. Lessons focus on the things that matter most for real-world playing: rhythm, timing, groove, smooth chord changes, and musical feel, using real music rather than endless exercises.

Because I’ve played in a wide range of live situations, I can also share practical tips about actually playing music, not just technique in isolation.

After each lesson, I’ll send you practice material so you know exactly what to work on between sessions and can keep building momentum.

Online lessons

I teach online using a high-quality multi-camera setup, so you can clearly see both hands and follow along easily. The sound quality is clear, and I can demonstrate things from different angles when needed.

Online lessons work especially well and remove the hassle of travelling or finding parking. Lessons are available in 30- or 60-minute formats and are suitable for ages 12 and up (students should be comfortable working independently during online sessions).

Lesson style and support

Lessons are supportive and encouraging, but always focused on helping you make progress. Whether you want to play songs you enjoy, improve your timing and flow, or finally understand what you’re doing on the instrument, I’ll help you build confidence step by step.

Learning music should feel motivating and enjoyable, not stressful or confusing.
