About Ilaria

My career as a Chinese teacher started two years ago in Rome. Yes, because I studied and I'm currently performing Chinese lessons. Bachelor's degree studies, graduating in Oriental Languages at La Sapienza in Rome. In 2017, I started with a scholarship to Beijing University, achieved the advanced level in Chinese three months later.

During that time I taught English and Chinese to students and I had the pleasure of helping a university teacher perfect English in conversation, getting her ready for a trip in Europe (using Chinese to explain words). This experience taught me that I was able to help many people with my knowledge. My study programme includes English and Hindi and Chinese as first language.

Back in Italy, I developed more skills - i.e. translating, and achieved C2 level in Chinese by travelling, books, writing and films in the original language. Now I know how to use all registers of spoken and written language, from tbusiness context to the most informal vocabulary. I translated documents of every type from Chinese to Italian.

I enjoy teaching foreign languages in general, because I feel that I can create a bridge between people from different countries and cultures.

About the lesson

大家好! Hello everyone! Chinese language is exciting and gives a lot of satisfaction. Not everyone can learn Chinese, but most people, if constantly motivated by passion and a good teacher, can achieve excellent results in a short time.

You are a perfect match as a Chinese learner if:

- You feel enchanted and curious about China, its traditions and want to discover its secrets.
- You want to master Chinese language to be able to make small talks or understand what Chinese conversations.
- You want to start from scratch and learn the first words and phrases - Hello! How are you? I'm italian.
- You are a passionate learner all the time and love challenges.
- You are willing to spend your time learning.

I usually organize a one-hour first lesson for free in order to get to know each other, because it can put students at ease and I can learn their cognitive style, needs and goals. No need to be afraid: when we are facing something new, i.e. learning a second language, it is normal to feel shy and scared by a conversation. Believe me, once you'll learn to speak Chinese, you will have defeated at least half of your fears, looking for other native spesker to test your skills! Nothing could be simpler if you have someone at your side who gives a boost to our abilities and a realistic view of the potential we have.

Everyone is different and unique, with strengths and opportunities to be seized. My philosophy is: always understand and act according to one's own way of thinking, speaking and learning. In this way, we can learn more about our inner qualities and areas of opportunity, but also learn while having fun! Talking about a hobby,our favorite sport, an experience with friends in Chinese language increases the state of well-being that we get from talking about things we like - and we connect that feeling of well-being with learning, in this case English.

To get an idea, here is an example of one lesson:
- 10mn of informal conversation: how are you, what did you do this week?
- 10mn correction of some exercises: written expression, oral comprehension ... Highlighting strenghts and areas of opportunity.
- 20mn work on a material in Chinese language (text, video, song): what is it? What do you think about it?
- 10mn: grammar exercises related to the developed themes
- 5mn: reading and pronunciation.
- 5mn: list of words used and learned during the lesson.

Of course, this is just an example. You can spend more time on one activity than another or focus on a particular aspect that needs improvement. We can comment chinese news and articles, for example, if you already have some basics (intermediate-advanced). We can discuss about politics or cultural aspects, chinese custom. We can focus our time on writing if you really want to learn calligraphy in the future.

Molto disponibile e simpatica. Essendo io madrelingua non ho avuto molto bisogno della parte orale però è riuscita comunque a darmi delle dritte sia sulla pronuncia che sulla forma. L'ho conosciuta perché i miei genitori, sotto raccomandazione, l'hanno contatta per aiutarmi a migliorare sulla scrittura ed hanno molto apprezzato sia i suoi modi di fare che le sue tecniche di insegnamento. Mi sono trovato subito a mio agio e devo dire che è sempre stata disponibile per qualsiasi dubbio e chiarimento. Se ne avessi ancora il bisogno non esiterei a contattarla.

Details

1 hour: 17 euros. Minimum time for each lesson: 1 hour.

2 hours lesson, same day: 30 euros. 4 hours: 70 euros with conditions to be defined with the student.

The supplement for any trips is to be defined, depending on the distance, I usually charge € 20 / hour.
