About Raqia

I currently work in mental health support. Psychology was never just a degree for me. It started because I wanted to understand people, properly, not textbook definitions but the actual mess of how we think, feel, and make decisions. That curiosity never really switched off.
I teach because I remember what it felt like to sit in a lecture completely lost and too embarrassed to say so. I remember reading journal articles that felt like they were written to deliberately exclude anyone who hadn’t already understood the topic. I don’t think learning should feel like that. I want to be the person I needed back then: someone who explains things like a human, checks in without being patronising, and actually cares whether you leave the session feeling clearer than when you walked in.
I also tutor English, because good writing and clear thinking are basically the same skill, and once you crack one the other follows.
Outside of tutoring, I work with people going through some of the hardest moments of their lives, and that work has made me a better teacher. It taught me patience, how to really listen, and how to meet someone exactly where they are instead of where I think they should be

About the lesson

Hi, I’m Raqia. I have a BSc in Applied Psychology and an MSc in Psychology from the University of Essex, so I’ve been through the full gauntlet of essays, stats panic, and “wait, what even is epistemology” moments. I get it because I’ve been there.
I tutor psychology at GCSE, A-Level, and undergraduate level, covering everything from research methods and statistics to abnormal, social, and cognitive psychology. I also tutor English, with a focus on essay writing, comprehension, and building confidence with language.
My style is relaxed and honest. I don’t do jargon for the sake of it, and I won’t make you feel silly for asking questions. I break things down until they actually make sense, not just until they sound academic. I’m big on real examples, clear explanations, and making sure you walk away feeling like you genuinely understood something rather than just memorised it.
Whether you’re trying to pass an exam, get a better grip on your coursework, or just stop dreading your assignments, I’d love to help!
