I help my students understand the concept by breaking it down to small steps making sure each portion makes sense before building up. I have helped students in college earn two letter grades higher by using this method. Now there may be times I don’t understand a concept but I’ll put in all the effort to make sure I’m educated in the matter before proceeding to explain it to my peers.
