About Yuto

I worked as a full-time medical interpreter for the US Army, which demonstrates my fluency and ability to use language in professional settings. I also hold a teaching degree and have teaching experience, though not specifically in Japanese. I became an interpreter without studying or living abroad, which proves that language can be mastered from scratch anywhere. Since I learned English this way, I understand the challenges students face and will guide you step by step to build your Japanese skills — from the basics to a near-native level. Learning a language can be fun and rewarding, and I aim to make that journey enjoyable for you.

About the lesson

I hold a teaching degree and have professional experience as an interpreter, which helps me explain Japanese clearly and in context. My lessons' length can be flexible and tailored to each student’s goals and level. I can adapt lesson plans for casual conversation, exam preparation, or specialized needs such as technical or professional Japanese. Perfect! Yuto is a fantastic tutor. He has amazing experience teaching Japanese to English speakers and has an excellent grasp of English. His understanding of English enables him to explain Japanese to English speakers in normal conversational English, with relevant examples and equivalents.

Studying for a PhD in a country where you don’t know the language must be a real challenge.
Your pronunciation is really good for a first lesson — I’m impressed! I think you have a great ear for mimicking sounds.
Try to always think about the blocks when pronouncing things. Hiragana and Katakana aren’t that many, so with a bit of memorization and regular practice, you’ll soon feel confident pronouncing Japanese words.
