About Engin

After completing his primary and secondary education in Cyprus, he started his university life in 1989 with the Physics teaching undergraduate program at Ankara Gazi University, Gazi Education Faculty, and graduated as a Physics and Science teacher. He completed his master's and doctorate degrees respectively at Ankara Gazi University, Institute of Science - Physics Education. He graduated from Gazi University Institute of Educational Sciences - Secondary Education Science and Mathematics Fields Education. He worked as a Science and Physics teacher in various primary and secondary schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education in Turkey between 1998 and 2007. After being appointed as an Assistant Professor at Kırşehir Ahi Evran University Faculty of Education in 2007 and working there for a short time, he started working as an Assistant Professor at Near East University Faculty of Education in the same year and still continues his duty there. Engin BAYSEN, who gained the title of associate professor on Science Education in 2018, and professor in 2024 continues to serve as the Head of the Department of Mathematics and Science Education at NEU Atatürk Faculty of Education. Moreover, he has been teaching science-related courses (fundamentals of science, laboratory, science teaching) in Ataturk Teachers academy. He has many articles, book chapters published in SSCI indexed journals regarding education, science, and physics education, which aim to improve the learning and teaching of science and physics as a fundamental phenomenon. He tutored many students preparing for college, university entrance exams. He is specialized in teaching of physics (GCSE), and Mathematics (including Mechanics). Engin BAYSEN has advanced level English and beginner level German knowledge.

About the lesson

The teaching methodology in this course will depend on student-centered approaches. Constructivism, which has been tested for a century and mostly been accepted as a theory for education (both for primary, secondary, and tertiary schooling), will be used in the lessons. Students will be active in their learning. Starting with discussions revealing student prerequisite knowledge, and organizing the lesson plans depending on students' needs and the targets of lessons. The lessons will continue with discussions regarding the principles, rules, and theories of that particular topic. Only after that, the tutor will give examples of problems and practices to the students to empower their knowledge of and skills in solving the problems they are going to encounter both in their schools and in their future exams. Each lesson will be finalized summarizing the learned ideas and planning the future lesson/s. The lessons will be carried out on an online platform for an hour. Different techniques will be used in the lessons. For example, videos of experiments that are not possible to carry on in the class time, student and teacher-led experiments to convince the students about the phenomena will be utilized.
