About Dashiell

I am a graduate student doing his master's at the University of British Columbia, specializing in geography, environmental science, and data analysis. My academic work focuses on snow hydrology and environmental modeling, where I regularly work with real-world datasets using R, GIS, and statistical tools. Through my research and coursework, I have developed strong skills in coding, data visualization, quantitative analysis, and problem-solving.

I enjoy helping students build confidence in technical subjects that can often feel overwhelming at first. My goal is to make complex concepts clear and approachable while ensuring students develop lasting understanding, not just short-term solutions. I’m patient, structured, and committed to helping students succeed in their coursework and projects.

About the lesson

I take a practical, problem-solving approach to tutoring. My goal is not just to help students complete assignments, but to make sure they understand the concepts well enough to apply them independently. I specialize in R programming, GIS, environmental data analysis, and statistics for university students.

A typical lesson starts by identifying exactly where you’re stuck. We then break the problem into clear, manageable steps. I explain the underlying concepts, demonstrate solutions, and guide you through applying them yourself. By the end of the session, you’ll not only have progress on your work but also a clearer understanding of the material.

What sets me apart is that I actively work with real research data in snow hydrology and environmental modeling, so I teach from hands-on experience rather than just theory. I’m comfortable helping with labs, assignments, data visualization, debugging code, and thesis projects.

My lessons are best suited for high school and undergraduate students in geography, environmental science, and related fields who need support with R, GIS, or quantitative analysis.
