About Alex

Hi, I’m Alex (they/them)! I started learning to play the violin when I was 5, and since then I’ve gone on to study violin with members of the Komische Oper Berlin, Royal Northern Sinfonia, and York Symphony Orchestra, to name just a few! During my studies at Newcastle University’s International Centre for Music Studies, I completed a minor specialist study in performance, and performed in numerous concerts, venues and events across Newcastle as both a soloist and ensemble player. For many years I was based in Berlin, where I played in concerts at the Philharmonie, Konzerthaus, and various beautiful churches around the city as a violinist, violist, and horn player with the Symphonisches Orchester der Humboldt-Universität and Humboldts Studentische Philharmonie. Now based in Glasgow, I play regularly with the Glasgow Chamber Orchestra and Glasgow Classical String Orchestra. I'm excited to hear from anyone hoping to learn to play the violin - I'd love to hear what your hopes and goals are, and what music or musicians have inspired your love for the violin. About the lesson

I work with violin students of all ages and levels - whether you are a beginner or looking for more advanced tuition, I will create a series of lesson plans which will support you in achieving your goals. Together we'll agree on our goals for your lessons, and how I can best support you in achieving these. You know best how you work and learn, and I am here to make sure those needs are met! At the end of each lesson, I'll give you a structured summary of what we worked on, what to practise, and our agreed focus for the next lesson so that you can prioritise your time and come away from each lesson with a strong understanding of what to work on. I typically offer 60 minute lessons, but 30 and 45 minute lessons are also available if you feel you'd benefit from a shorter lesson time - whatever works best for you! Please feel free to get in touch to discuss your individual requirements for lessons, and to ask any questions about learning violin with me! I have successfully completed the professional development course 'Becoming a Better Music Teacher' by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) to further enhance my teaching practice and ensure that as a student you receive the best guidance and support possible from me.

Details

For 60 minute lessons I charge £40. For 45 minute lessons I charge £30. For 30 minute lessons I charge £20. I set my teaching rates in line with recommendations made by the Musicians’ Union. Looking forward to hearing from you :)
