About Lydia
- What kind of experience do you have? I am Senior Instrumental Manager for Wandsworth Music and have my own private teaching business, where pupils ranging in age, from 5 to 35, come to me to learn and develop. If they choose to, many of my students undertake ABRSM grade exams, all of whom have thus far achieved Merit and above, and I encourage all of my pupils to perform in fun, informal concerts with each other, and join local ensembles. Whilst at the Royal College I worked with the RCM Sparks, which is the College's Youth Music Programme run by the Woodhouse Centre. This involved taking part in composition masterclasses and orchestral string concerts attended by hundreds of children from local boroughs. - Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate? Yes. - Where and with whom did you train? I went to the Junior Royal Academy of Music, studying with Erica Simpson and Ben Davies. For my Bachelor of Music degree in Performance, I attended the Royal College of Music, studying with Leonid Gorokov and Thomas Carroll. I recently completed my masters degree in Performance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire, studying with Natalia Pavlutskya and Alex Ivashkin. - Do you belong to any professional organisations? I am a member of the Orpheus Foundation Orchestra, the Orion Orchestra, The Situation Opera Orchestra and the London Arts Orchestra. I teach for Wandsworth School's Music Centre and at Wimbledon High School. I form half of cello/violin duo, The London Duo. - Tell me about some of your current students. One of my students is a young 5 year old beginner, with an 1/8th size cello! He is learning so much more about how to communicate, listen and learn and suits the cello very much. Another is 22 and used to learn the piano and so knows how to read music which is a real advantage. She is doing very well and is a pleasure to work with. I give music theory lessons to a gentleman wishing to progress his compositional techniques and I teach two siblings who come to me for alternate cello and trumpet lessons!

Lydia was a superb teacher to our son and he progressed rapidly though his music grades. Her care and support enabled him to really understand the pieces and she always made the lessons enjoyable.
Lydia invests time with her pupils, often playing in parts with them to develop musicianship. Her engaging lessons, support understanding and encourage practice, so her pupils progress really well. From absolute beginners to Grade 8, we know many cellists who have excelled with Lydia.
