About Aretha
Hi! I’m Aretha—a science researcher, SAT tutor, and classically trained singer with a strong academic background and a passion for helping students thrive. I’ve completed college-level coursework through NCSSM, interned with NASA, and was named a Regeneron Science Talent Search Scholar for my wet-lab biology research on tardigrades and aging. I also scored a 1520 on the SAT and was selected as a National Merit Finalist. I tutor elementary through high school students in math, biology, chemistry, SAT prep, and classical singing. My approach is flexible, student-centered, and grounded in proven learning techniques like active recall, spaced repetition, and the Feynman Technique. I adapt each session to your learning style—visual, auditory, kinesthetic, or reading/writing—so that you can actually understand the material, not just memorize it. Above all, I want you to feel confident, capable, and supported. Whether you're aiming for a top score, catching up in class, or exploring a new subject, I’ll meet you where you are and help you get where you want to be—with patience, strategy, and just the right amount of challenge. Hi! I’m Aretha, and I specialize in flexible, personalized tutoring.
Having learned through AP, IB, and college-level classes, I’ve experienced firsthand how different teaching styles work for different learners. That’s why my tutoring approach adapts to you—not the other way around.
I tailor each lesson based on your learning style:
- Auditory learners: lecture-based lessons with interactive Q&A
- Visual learners: diagrams, flowcharts, and visually guided worksheets
- Kinesthetic learners: hands-on practice and active problem-solving
- Reading/writing learners: written explanations with step-by-step breakdowns
If you’re unsure of your learning style, we’ll explore all the above until something clicks.
I also believe the best way to learn is to teach—so I dedicate the last 15 minutes of each session to a mini “teach-back,” where you explain what you’ve learned using the Feynman Technique.
