About Justin

Hello! My name is Justin, and I obtained my Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology from Rutgers University. I have over seven years of teaching experience at the high school and College levels. I have taught introductory (foundational biology) to senior-level (cell biology) courses, including lecture and laboratory material. I am a very empathetic teacher and understand that no two students are alike in learning style. I efficiently present information through multiple media platforms, i.e., lectures, pictures, and videos. I am confident that after a few sessions, my lesson plans will be specifically geared toward your strengths as a student.

About the lesson

My teaching methods and lesson designs follow a student-centered and constructivist. During my first lesson, I engage with each of my students to discover their strengths and weaknesses while learning new material to ensure that each class is constructive and helpful to the student.

A typical lesson plan will follow three steps: first, a lecture portion that includes essential information vital for building upon. This will consist of defining keywords or phrases that might be more nuanced to ensure the foundational knowledge is set. Next, I provide examples of problems and physiological norms that should be understood to understand the biological processes fully. During this time, students are encouraged to ask questions and engage with the material to assess material mastery. Finally, I provide application problems that challenge critical thinking and material applicability. These scenarios can bridge multiple lesson plans to allow students to see how information from one session is required for building a fuller understanding of biological processes.

What will set me apart as a tutor is that I have a Ph. D. in the biological field and know what is required for students to be successful in biology. Further, my approach to learning is that students should not just memorize and regurgitate, but the information should be applicable. This allows students to feel confident and well-equipped to answer any question and have the correct tools to do so. I am a patient and resourceful tutor, and my sessions will be able to help any student, be it those that would like to master the material to those that are struggling and would like another perspective on the subject.
