About Sakina

I am Sakina, a high school math educator with over 17 years of international teaching experience and a Master of Education from the University of Ottawa. I have worked with students from diverse backgrounds and academic levels, and I understand that learning math can sometimes feel intimidating, but it does not have to be. My approach is patient, structured, and supportive. I don’t just teach to the test; I help students truly understand the “why” behind the numbers, so they gain lasting confidence and skills they can carry forward. Whether you are preparing for Grade 12 exams, brushing up on algebra, or navigating complex word problems, I am here to walk with you every step of the way. I specialize in helping students break down complex formulas into clear, manageable ideas, fostering not just accuracy but genuine comprehension. My goal is not just to arrive at the right answer, but to evolve the thinking process that leads there—building critical analysis, problem-solving strategies, and a true love for learning mathematics. I also bring strong English language expertise to my sessions, making me especially effective for students who are learning in a second language or who need support with understanding instructions and communicating their thinking clearly. My Tutoring Approach: Empowering Understanding, Not Just Memorization

As a high school mathematics educator with over 17 years of international experience and a Master of Education from the University of Ottawa, I believe effective tutoring goes beyond solving problems—it builds deep conceptual understanding, critical thinking, and academic confidence.

My Teaching Methodology: I follow a student-centered, inquiry-based approach grounded in real-world application and cognitive learning strategies. I use a mix of visual aids, step-by-step problem breakdowns, and guided practice to meet students at their current level. I differentiate instruction based on learning pace and style, ensuring that each student feels supported, not overwhelmed.

What a Typical Lesson Looks Like: Each session begins with a quick diagnostic review to identify focus areas. I then guide students through key concepts with examples, engage them in problem-solving, and end with practice tasks or strategy tips for independent study. I also incorporate brief reflection to ensure retention and clarity.

What Sets Me Apart:

I blend math mastery with English language expertise, making me especially effective with ELL students and those who struggle with word problems or exam language.

I integrate academic coaching with content support, helping students set goals, develop study habits, and build confidence.
