About Helen

I am a former Senior Lecturer at the renowned Design College Australia, teaching the Adv Dip of Visual Communication & Photoimaging for over 6 years. I have worked in the creative industries for over 15 years, with key roles as Creative Director of Basis Advertising Brisbane, and of my own studio since 2008. Recently I’ve returned to the teaching life as a private trainer, specializing in Adobe Photoshop, Indesign and Illustrator, Canva and of course design fundamentals and idea generation.

About the lesson

Canva is a great product and has plenty of features for everyday users. But how can you make the most of it without getting bogged down in the endless choices of templates, fonts and inevitable drafts? Canva should save you time and money, but you need to use it wisely. That’s where I come in. THE LESSONS - Minimum 1 hour - Can be for students, professionals, business owners or anyone with a graphic design task - the lesson begins with discussion / establishment of your goals for the session Items that can be covered include: - how to choose the best templates for your projects - How to edit those templates so they don’t get messy - How to store your brand assets even if you don’t have a subscription - How to find quality photos and other elements both in Canva and from other sources (legally) - Making the decision to subscribe or not - Understanding layout fundamentals to help you maintain the quality of the Canva designs - How to choose fonts - How to choose colors - Why you should stick with colors, fonts and photographic themes and when it’s ok to break your own rules - ANYTHING ELSE you’re dying to know! - Lesson ends with a review of learnings against the goals set at the start. Any additional questions are answered if time allows. - Next appointment is set if applicable Lessons are conducted in Zoom, or if you are in the Brisbane area I can do in-person classes at an agreed meeting spot. Perfect! Helen's canva tutorial was fantastic. She explained everything clearly and also in a concise manner. The lesson was better than expected and the great part is she records it so you can look back on the session if you need to! She also gave me some added design tips. I highly recommend helen
