About Livia

I am a Mathematics tutor with 5 years of experience and a BSc in Mathematics with a geometry specialism. I have worked with over 175 students with particular effectiveness with students in architecture, engineering, and physics who need strong geometric and spatial mathematical reasoning. My geometry specialism means I bring a genuine depth of mathematical understanding to the geometric content of school and undergraduate mathematics that most generalist tutors cannot match. I am particularly excited to teach students at the intersection of Mathematics and Architecture where geometric thinking is genuinely central to both disciplines. Let me help you develop the geometric and spatial mathematical thinking that Architecture and its related disciplines require.

My Mathematics teaching gives specific emphasis to geometric and spatial mathematical thinking, developing the visual and spatial reasoning skills that are underemphasised in most mathematics education despite being foundational to architecture, engineering, physics, and many other demanding disciplines. I teach Euclidean geometry with formal proof from secondary school level because the discipline of geometric proof develops rigorous mathematical reasoning in a context where the results are visually verifiable, making the logical structure of mathematical argument tangible in a way that purely algebraic proof sometimes does not. Vectors are taught with strong attention to both their algebraic properties and their geometric interpretation, moving fluidly between coordinate representation and geometric description because fluency in both registers is what distinguishes students who can apply vector methods flexibly from those who can only apply fixed procedures. Transformations — reflections, rotations, translations, enlargements — are taught with their matrix representations alongside their geometric descriptions, connecting geometric intuition to the linear algebra that underlies all transformation mathematics. Coordinate geometry is developed with specific emphasis on the connection between algebraic forms and geometric properties — why the equation of a circle has the form it does, what the coefficients of a conic section reveal about its shape — because this algebraic-geometric connection is the deep insight that coordinate geometry is designed to develop. Topology is introduced informally at A-Level and above as the study of properties preserved under continuous deformation, because this perspective on geometry is both intellectually beautiful and directly relevant to architecture, where topological thinking about form and space is increasingly significant. My teaching goal is a student who thinks geometrically and spatially with genuine confidence and sophistication.
