About Appi
I am an experienced science educator currently serving as Head of Physics and teaching A-Level Physics at a state secondary school in England. I hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Master of Science degree in Science Education. My academic journey has included study at King’s College London, the University of Manchester and the University of Southampton, followed by the completion of my PGCE at the University of Greenwich. Alongside seven years of classroom teaching experience, I bring more than a decade of experience in tutoring and examining. I firmly believe that every student has the potential to become a confident and successful learner when given the right guidance and support. I am particularly passionate about helping students who find science challenging or lack confidence in their abilities. My approach is patient, encouraging and carefully tailored to each student’s individual needs, starting point and academic goals. My teaching incorporates a range of evidence-informed strategies, including clear modelling, mastery learning, metacognition, retrieval practice and targeted examination-question practice. I break complex scientific concepts into manageable steps, identify and address gaps in understanding, and provide clear, constructive feedback throughout the learning process. Whether a student needs to strengthen their foundational knowledge, improve their examination technique or work towards the highest grades, I provide structured and personalised support to help them build confidence and achieve their full potential.

My lessons are carefully structured around Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction, cognitive load theory and an understanding of student psychology. I begin by reviewing prior knowledge before introducing new material in small, manageable steps. I use clear explanations, modelling and worked examples, followed by guided practice and independent exam-question practice. Frequent questioning and checks for understanding allow me to identify misconceptions and adapt the lesson immediately. Using cognitive load theory, I break complex scientific concepts into accessible sections so that students do not feel overwhelmed. Support and scaffolding are gradually reduced as their knowledge, confidence and independence develop. I also use retrieval practice, mastery learning and metacognitive strategies to help students understand how they learn, remember information effectively and approach unfamiliar problems confidently. I recognise that confidence, motivation and anxiety can significantly affect academic performance. Therefore, I create a patient, encouraging environment in which students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. Every lesson is personalised to the student’s ability, learning needs and goals—whether they need to rebuild their foundations, improve examination technique or work towards the highest grades. I hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and an MSc in Physics, and I teach A-Level Physics at a state school in England. I have five years of classroom teaching experience and four years of experience as a tutor and examiner, working successfully with students across a wide range of abilities and educational needs.

At different times Appi has tutored my two sons in preparation for their GCSE and A Level Physics exams. Both boys agree he is extremely knowledgeable in the subject. Appi being the examiner for years he teaches exam techniques that helped my sons immensely. They both thoroughly prepared for their exams and achieved excellent results. Can’t recommend Appi enough.
Appi is a great tutor because he really knows his stuff and has a lot of teaching experience. He is super responsive to questions and feedback, which makes learning easier. Plus, other students have had positive experiences with him, showing he gets results. Appi adapts his style to fit different learners, stays professional, and genuinely cares about helping students succeed. Overall, you can trust him to have your back!
Appi is a fantastic tutor that is very secure and confident in his subject knowledge. He is patient and knows how to breakdown complex topics into digestible chunks of information. I highly recommend him.
I cannot recommend Appi highly enough for anyone seeking physics tutoring. My son has been struggling with the subject for quite some time, but after just a few sessions, his understanding and confidence have grown significantly. Appi has a rare ability to break down complex concepts in a way that is both clear and engaging, making even the most difficult topics seem manageable.
What stands out most is their patience and ability to connect with my son on a personal level, tailoring each lesson to his specific needs and learning style. The tutoring sessions are always well-organized, and they provide plenty of practice problems to reinforce what has been learned.
Not only has my son’s grade improved, but he genuinely enjoys physics now, which was unimaginable before. If you're looking for a tutor who is knowledgeable, patient, and truly cares about student success, Appi is the one to go to!My daughter went for Chemistry and Physics classes - best decision ! Not only Appi helped on her academics aspects but also helped my daughter to build her confidence which many tutors don’t do nowadays. Highly recommend Appi.
