About Shey

A Maths and Scince tutor with a degree in Biomedical Science. I love to problem-solve and work my way through challenges. I undertook placement as a laboratory technician at The William Harvey Research Institute, problem solving, planning and performing several experiments. My experiences equipped me with excellent staff training (one-to-one discussions improving work quality), research skills and creativity with my learning to achieve my goals . Time-management, communication and organisation skills have also been a key factor that allows me to share my services and support you as your mentor.

Previously helped 5 university students with revision and proofread and edited assignments to achieve their desired grades. All passed and achieved higher than expected (2:1 and 1st). This improved their self-esteem and confidence in believing in their capabilities of being and achieving more, an important self-quality. Our attitude in life becomes more positive and drives us to tackle opportunities we thought we never could.

Since young, as I always had an interest in helping others, I found myself working towards contributing in the medical field. With the knowledge I have gained and continue to learn, I want to be able to help those that need it and also be a support system that I never had. I found during my years from school through to university, teachers and professors are not always helpful and we tend to suffer in silence when we feel stuck. Although you need to be independent, sometimes the extra push or another mindset filled with different ideas other than yours goes a long way to success, and takes off or reduces the stress and anxiety you face during education.

I find that listening and learning from others triggers a different thought process and allows you to consider/explore other ideas to better you or in the case of education, your work. From this experience, and as a person who is open to others opinions and knowledge they share, I want to be the extra help and support system an individual needs to achieve their goals and continue elevating.

About the lesson

I support KS3 students in Maths, but also Chemistry and Biology.

My aim with sessions is to make learning enjoyable and easier to understand while preparing for exams. I help students connect with topics making them exciting, therefore they feel more optimistic about tackling work and achieving higher grades, by the following strategy:

+ Identify the student learning style
+ Provide resource and learning materials
+ Regular assessments and knowledge check to assess progression. These are marked and feedback
+ Plan sessions using tools tailored to their learning style to make the topic clearer for them based on what they have asked to cover. For instance, if they are a visual learner, diagrams and figures will be implemented for clarity
+ Use progress reports to identify strengths and weaknesses. This will allow me to advise on ways of improving work and possibly using alternative methods

Lessons typically will be 1 hour, with the potential to go over if needs be.

Sessions will also include:

- Revision tips and examination prep/technique
- Research work as needed
- Extra reading/study material is provided where necessary

In addition, I proofread and edit work.

Proofreading & editing:

- Spelling, grammar and punctuation
- Consistency
- Sentence structure
- Content revision
- Work presentation
- Syntax

+ Assignments/essays: 3-4 days | For emergencies 2 days
+ Dissertations: 7-10 days | Faster service allow up to 5-6 days

- Turnaround times are subject to availability and word count. Any changes to timeframes for any help provided will be communicated.

- Will need to know the area of work you struggle with/what you want us to focus on 72h before the scheduled session.

3-4 days turnaround: £8 per 500 words (if up to 1000) | £12 per 1000 words

1-2 days turnaround: £12 per 500 words (if up to 1000) | £15 per 1000 words

Dissertations

Up to 7 days turnaround: £15 per 1000 words

Special fees apply for faster service in less than 5 days

Please, note, word counts, such as 1500 will be the stated fee, plus 50% of that fee.

For sessions that relate to coursework only are subject to a £5 fee in addition to proofreading fee.

Cancellation policy:

Please, notify 24h in advance to cancel any sessions as per Superprof's policy.

On day cancellations: subject to a fee of £5 and must be notified 4h in advance. Any cancellations past the 4h mark is subject to a fee of half the session price.
