About Penelope
I worked for a number of years as an international journalist before teaching English abroad and across a number of schools in London and am currently teaching English to pupils aged 7 to 18 at a school in Dorking. I have taught history to A level and in addition to teaching English, taught French and Spanish to GCSE as head of French for four years. I have taught both Edexcel and AQA GCSE and AQA A Level English during the past six years and have been involved in both reading and creative writing initiatives with the aim of creating an enjoyment of the world's main language of communication. I have a 100% pass rate for all GCSE students I have taught.
Students I have helped to write university cover letters for, have gained places at Bristol, Oxford. Surrey and Bournemouth Universities.

I balance the specific and targeted personal goals of the student with a tailored set of classes designed to cover learning gaps and focusing on areas of improvement. I have a background of producing and delivering a structured scheme of work and class content, both in schools as a former English department head and on week-long pre-exam intensives. I work closely with individual students and small groups, to support constructive essay-building and answers which will boost marks and confidence in English Language and Literature. I also understand how to support SEND students and reduce stress and panic in the process of acquiring English skills by offering a clear pathway towards strong results-based outcomes.
