About Sylvie

I am a future-trainee solicitor, having secured a Training Contract with a leading London law firm. This followed a rigorous application cycle, from which I received multiple Training Contract offers. Prior to this, I studied BA and MA History at the University of Manchester. During my studies, my work was consistently recognised for its excellence. At undergraduate level, I was awarded the Warren Kinsey Prize for best undergraduate dissertation. At postgraduate level, I won the Manchester University Press Prize for best thesis in the School of Humanities. My engagement with history extended beyond the pursuit of higher education. I had the honour of being selected to present my research at a research conference in Seville, sharing the insights of my research with an international audience. I also volunteered as a PhD research assistant for a remotely-based candidate, and highlighted the importance of collaborative research processes. This spirit of collaboration continued as I worked with a team to curate an exhibition piece for the John Rylands' Library, exploring Manchester's pivotal role within global cotton trading networks. Beyond my professional and academic pursuits, I lead an active lifestyle. I love taking reformer Pilates classes and am currently training for my first half-marathon, which I will be running in Venice later this year.

About the lesson

My lessons are designed to build confidence, sharpen critical thinking, and develop subject-specific skills that are necessary to obtain top grades in both History and Law. I tailor each session to the individual needs of the student, focusing on clear, structured explanations, active discussion, and regular feedback. Whether we are analysing legal problems or evaluating historical sources, I aim to guide students towards independent thought and deeper analytical engagement. Lessons typically last for one hour and can be tailored to either A-Level or undergraduate students. I hold both BA and MA degrees in History and am a future trainee solicitor at a leading London law firm. My experience includes one-to-one dissertation supervision at undergraduate level, where I supported a student throughout the academic year and resulted in them obtaining a high distinction grade. This background allows me to deliver high-quality support across a range of topics in both History and Law, whether it be essay planning, source analysis, case interpretation, or exam preparation.
