About Roz
My credentials are the foundation of my teaching, proving that I understand what it takes to excel in the rigorous world of healthcare education and practice: Advanced Clinical Qualification: I hold a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and am a practicing Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C). This means I've mastered the clinical, diagnostic, and prescriptive knowledge that underpins both the RN and NP roles. Academic Excellence: I graduated from competitive university programs with a 4.0 GPA in both my BSN and MSN degrees. I not only achieved success, but I also developed the efficient study and test-taking strategies you need to replicate that success. Current Practice: My experience running an addiction clinic and practicing family medicine ensures our lessons are based on the most current, evidence-based guidelines and standards of care. I teach you what is happening in the clinic today, not what was in a textbook five years ago.

My approach as a tutor is designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world clinical application, ensuring you not only pass your exams but also feel confident and competent when you step into practice.
My Teaching Method and Techniques
I use an integrated, evidence-based teaching model that focuses on mastery over memorization.
Clinical Case-Based Learning (CCBL): As an FNP who practices addiction and family medicine, I translate complex concepts into real patient scenarios. For example, instead of just memorizing the mechanism of action for a drug, we will discuss: "How does this drug choice change if your patient with heart failure also has kidney disease? What is the next priority action in the clinical setting?"
"Study Smarter, Not Harder" Strategies: I teach high-yield exam techniques, including how to dissect a question stem, identify the client's priority (A-B-C, Maslow's, Safety), and eliminate distractors. We focus on test-taking logic specific to nursing and advanced practice exams.
Focused Review and Concept Mapping: I use concept maps and mind-mapping techniques to connect seemingly separate topics (e.g., how diabetes affects wound healing, which then influences which antibiotics you prescribe). This creates a holistic understanding of pathophysiology and treatment.
A Typical Lesson Plan
My lessons are structured to ensure efficient and measurable learning outcomes:
Warm-up & Needs Assessment (10 minutes): We begin with a brief, prioritized quiz (3-5 questions) on the previous session's topic and a quick assessment of your self-identified "trouble spots" for the current topic.
Core Concept Deep Dive (30-40 minutes): I deliver a targeted, concise review of the high-yield core content. This is not a lecture; it's an interactive discussion where I use my clinical experience to illustrate key pathophysiology, diagnostic pearls, and primary treatment guidelines.
Case Application & Critical Thinking (30-40 minutes): This is the core of the session. We work through 3-5 comprehensive clinical vignettes (case studies) that mimic the format of your board or class exams. We break down the case step-by-step:
What is the chief complaint?
What subjective and objective data are you looking for?
What are the differential diagnoses?
What is the definitive plan of care?
Action Plan & Follow-up (5-10 minutes): We end by summarizing key takeaways, identifying the one thing you need to practice or memorize before the next session, and scheduling the next topic based on your curriculum.
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor
My unique advantage is my background as a practicing MSN, FNP-C with a 4.0 GPA in both my BSN and MSN programs at competitive universities.
Dual Expertise: I can tutor at both the RN and advanced practice levels because I have excelled in and practiced both roles. I understand the foundational knowledge required for the NCLEX and the deeper, diagnostic, and prescriptive knowledge required for the AANP/ANCC boards.
Current Clinical Relevancy: I am not just teaching from a book; I am actively running an addiction clinic and previously practiced family medicine. This means I teach based on current clinical guidelines and standards of care, not outdated textbook information. My lessons are infused with real-world context you won't find in a prep course.
The "Why" vs. The "What": I don't just tell you what to study; I explain why it is important in patient care, which dramatically improves retention and critical thinking.
Who the Lessons Are For
My lessons are ideally suited for students at two primary levels:
Nursing Students (BSN/ADN Level): Students struggling with core clinical classes such as Med-Surg, Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, and those preparing for the NCLEX-RN.
Advanced Practice Students (MSN/DNP Level): Individuals pursuing their Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP) degrees, who need assistance with:
Differential diagnosis and management plans.
Comprehensive primary care or specialized topics (e.g., addiction medicine, mental health, chronic disease).
Preparation for the AANP or ANCC Nurse Practitioner Certification Exams.
