About Abi

I am a confident and reliable, 23 year old masters student living in Brighton for the third year. I study Human Resource Management currently at the University of Sussex and in addition to this, I have a First Class degree in Criminology and Sociology. I have volunteer experience in the Criminal Justice System and two years experience working alongside young people of all ages as a Student Ambassador for the University of Brighton including e-mentoring and outreach work. I hold an enhanced DBS check and a qualification in Safeguarding Adults and Safeguarding Children for Non-Children’s Services Workers (Awarded by Brighton and Hove Council).

I am new to tutoring but organised, professional and eager to share my knowledge. I am looking to start with some basic lessons in social science related topics (Sociology and Criminology specialisms). I am also equipped with tools, methods and coping mechanisms for improving time management skills, staying organised and dealing with stress from a practical stance.

About the lesson

My teaching method is professional and student-led but structured. I have a firm, friendly and supportive style of teaching and feel it is essential to allow students to communicate openly in order to tailor sessions personally. I don't believe in 'weaknesses', I believe in opportunities to strengthen skills and knowledge. After an initial meeting to make sure both the student and myself are comfortable and will work well together, we will agree a detailed personalised plan to reach main aims, cover appropriate topics and form a learning agreement.

Each session will be adaptable if necessary but core elements include running over objectives, engaging in a selection of tasks (catering to different learning styles) and a recap of the lesson to confirm objectives have been met. I am happy to set additional tasks to do outside of lesson time if this is something that is felt would be helpful.

I do not charge a fee for any cancellation of lessons. I would, however, kindly ask that I be made aware of any cancellations 48 hours prior to the session unless there are exceptional circumstances.
